Mesa, AZ is located 20 miles east of Phoenix. As part of the Metropolitan Phoenix area, Mesa visitors can opt to go on breaks here for more than just the big city experience.
Two thousand years ago, the Hohokam people arrived and settled in this area. In 1100 AD, the Hohokam men and women built canals and these individuals managed to turn the Sonoran desert into an agricultural oasis. Some of these canals are used till today.

People really do not actually know why the Hohokam vanished in the region. Nobody knows what happened to them. Even so, Mesa never lacked immigrants and residents.
Presently, only 2.1% of the population are Native Americans. Due to the close proximity to the US-Mexico border, nearly 33 % of the population is Hispanic. That is based on the 2006-2008 American Community Survey.
