The essentials you need ready for a new puppy
Before you buy a puppy (or go to a shelter and take one of those dogs home, which is a better way to do it) then you need to make sure you have everything ready for them when you get them back, because you are going to have your hands full as soon as they get back with you! The puppy or dog is probably going to be pretty nervous and anxious at going in your car for the first time, so you need either a carry cage for them or some sort of barrier to keep them away from the driver, otherwise they could cause an accident. Then probably the most obvious things to get are what they need to eat and drink, so you need to buy the actual food they need, a bowl to eat of, and a bowl to drink out of.
They need a bed to sleep in, you can get them from pretty much anywhere and just get one that looks comfy and they will soon fall in love with it. You’ll need something to keep them occupied while you aren’t watching them too, so get some toys, and you need some things like a toothbrush and paste for them (special items for dogs) and a dog brush to groom them with.Taking your dog out for a walk is important, so you’ll need a good lead for that, something strong for a big dog, or something which you can extend and retract for smaller dogs.
Finally a book on caring for a dog might be a good idea, just so you have something to refer to if you are wondering what to do about injections or how to potty train them etc, this is particularly important if you are bringing home an adorable but untrained puppy!
