When your house is too small to house guests the answer is to use a sofa bed which takes no room during everyday living. Even in Colleges some dorms have sofa beds to give students more flexibility and variety in their living space, giving a feeling of being more than just a dorm.

Although this is very uncomfortable it can be corrected by purchasing a bed that offers a much better mattress or indeed a replacement sofabed mattress. Couches that fold down into beds often are uncomfortable at the fold part as it is not natural to have a seam like this in a normal bed, a good quality mattress topper that covers the whole bed will easily fix this problem. Daybeds make great beds but not so great couches, which is why they are often relegated to guest rooms and kids rooms as opposed to a living area.

Overall, most sofa beds offer great seating and mediocre sleeping. However, this will vary depending on the quality of the bed. When purchasing a sofa bed it would behoove you to actually set up the bed portion and lay on it yourself to see how it works for you.
