Ways to make dealing with big companies easier
We all have services that require us to deal with a big company, whether its the gas company, cable TV provider, satellite radio provider or some other massive conglomerate, invariable we will all deal with their billing and tech support staff at least once. The experience can be a nightmare or fruitful. If you want the experience to go well I recommend the following:
1. Be nice. The person on the other end is a call center rep. They don’t own the company, they make minimum wage or slightly more, they don’t care specifically about you. They care about their paycheck. They didn’t make the policy you’re angry about so don’t yell at them (at least not to start).
2. If the customer service rep is rude, immediately ask for a supervisor. Be persistant, firm but polite, until you get the person you need. Report the rudeness, but do it without emotion. If you are emotional the supervisor is going to side with the rep, knowing that you were probably deserving of the rudeness.
3. Demonstrate how you understand their side of the issue, you’d like them to consider your side. You have a problem, you don’t want to make their life miserable, but you need a resolution that is helpful to everyone. Offer to give them good word of mouth advertising, offer to assist in the solution as much as possible.
