Crisis Management
Crisis management is more focused towards damages caused to the image of the organizations. Often termed as perceptual crisis, this can be the worst form of crisis for any business. In this case, management tackles the situations on various levels. The lead role is taken by the PR department. It concentrates on rebuilding the brand image by assuring the public of the products quality and consequent services. Crisis management also involves, preparing crisis contingency plans, providing accurate information to the media, public and shareholders apart from making fast moves for better long term results.
Are public relations and crisis management planning important to your business? The answer is simple and direct. Public relations and crisis management planning are not only important to your business, they are both CRUCIAL to your business, regardless of your type of business.
Many people confuse public relations and marketing, yet they are two very distinct things. Marketing connects products or services to a particular group or audience. This allows tailored approaches and makes it easier to measure results.
Public Relations are about building and maintaining relationships–truthful, honest connections between your organization’s internal and external stakeholders. PR crisis management should help set the tone of your company, and, like marketing, should be managed communication.
In the event that crisis due to finance happened (which was largely dismissed as being unlikely), world governments would act in concert to avoid a world-wide financial meltdown. In fact, due to increasingly global marketplaces, governments across the world would be better served to act together. Unfortunately, this conventional piece of wisdom seems to be suspect, as well. To date, the EU has not acted in concert; several contingents in the U.S. are calling for increased protectionism; and Far Eastern countries have not developed a plan to help relieve the financial crisis. Well, at least we got one thing right in the U.S.: we exported our financial problems to the rest of the world.
