Stop Puppy Biting.
One of the first things you have to deal with as the owner of a new puppy is how to stop puppy from biting and nipping. The puppy is not being malicious, far from it, this is normal behaviour for a new dog, however there is danger that if left unchecked the puppy could become a liability when it grows. Fortunately there are various simple solutions to stop puppy biting behaviour and a sensible approach will have this potentially troublesome problem solved in a matter of days or for some puppies even a matter of hours. Before solving a problem we must first understand it, so before tackling it let us realise why they do it.
**Why Do Puppies Bite**
There are a number of very good reasons why your new puppy is biting you, if you can realise why it is happening you can tackle the problem easily.
Puppy fun and games.
Exploration.
To dominate.
Overstimulation.
Your puppy is angry.
The herding instinct.
Growing pains.
Feed me.
Different puppies bite for different reasons and this article is not long enough to advise on them all, We are concentrating on the most common reason here along with general good practice that will probably deal with any puppy biting, whatever the underlying reason. The most experienced reason for puppy biting is play biting.
**How To Stop Puppy Biting**
Coming up are the surefire ways to stop a new puppy from making a meal of you and the family, however, consistency is the key to success. Everyone who has contact with the new puppy should be aware of how to deal with bites, kids especially, there should be no time that the rules don’t apply. Consistency and a sensible puppy will ensure success in a very short period of time, less than a day is possible.
The dog way.
If bitten we need to let the puppy know it is not acceptable, just like another dog we let out a loud indication of pain and immediately suspend play and eye contact, your puppy immediately understands this is a bad thing and will try to make friends again. Do not hold a grudge, after a short time when puppy has realised you should make up by continuing play, but repeat it every time, do this with everyone who gets bitten and puppy will stop almost immediately so everyone can enjoy pain free play sessions.
